Guide For an Epic St. George, Utah Vacation
Whoop whoop!! You’re probably here because you are planning a St. George vacation! This is the absolute perfect destination for outdoor lovers that just want to explore.
From the many different things to see in the area to the best places to stay this guide will point you in the right direction to have the best time ever. If you are headed on a family, solo, duo, or girls trip you will not be disappointed in the options of activities in this beautiful town.
WHEN TO GO TO ST. GEORGE
In my opinion the times of the year that you may find St. George most enjoyable are the months of March, April, May, October, and November. The reason being for this is because at these times the weather tends to be at a sweet spot. It typically is about 60 to high 70 degrees during the day which makes for the perfect weather when you are hiking and exploring.
Another big reason for this is that by these months the summer crowds haven’t arrived yet or have already left. In the times that I have been to St.George it is so much easier to get to and see things these few months because there are a lot less people that will also be trying to see things.
WHERE TO STAY IN ST. GEORGE
I have had the opportunity to stay at Paradise Village at Zion twice now and it has been such a good experience! The community is located in Santa Clara which is the town just northwest of St.George.
All of the houses located in Paradise Village are very nice and well taken care of. The community has two nice pools with a water park in one of them and amazing views of the surrounding area. It is also just a few minutes drive to Snow Canyon State Park
and the Tuacahn Amphitheater.
This destination is perfect for families and parties of all sizes. There are multiple homes in Paradise Village that are available to stay in that range in different sizes so as to accommodate your needs.
WHAT TO DO IN ST. GEORGE
Pioneer Park:
If you would love to do nothing more than explore 52 acres of gorgeous red rock then you have to stop at Pioneer Park! The park has multiple fun and memorable things to check out. It is close to town so it makes for an easy, not too out of the way, activity for a couple of hours.
In the park you will be able to climb on and explore red rocks that cover the area. If you wish to, you can climb on top of Dixie Rock for a spectacular view of the city. Another great thing to experience in the park is the St. George Narrows which is a narrow slot canyon amid the many rocks.
Snow Canyon State Park:
The Snow Canyon State Park is a great less crowded and less expensive alternative to Zion and Bryce National Parks. It has a lot of the same things to offer as these parks do such as the breathtaking sandstone cliffs and colorful rock formations. It is about a 10-20 minute drive from St. George and is a great activity for the day.
Snow Canyon has all different kinds of thighs to see and do such as multiple hiking trails, sand dunes, and lava tubes. Jenny’s Slot Canyon is a sculpted and beautiful narrow canyon with a fun and family friendly hike that is one the the best in the park.
Sand Hollow State Park:
The Sand Hollow State Park is the perfect mix of sand dunes and clear blue water. You can choose to spend the day on the beach and rent out a boat or water toys at Sand Hollow Rentals or rent an ATV to enjoy a day in the sand. You even have the option to rent the necessities to go scuba diving in the water!
Yant Flats (Candy Cliffs):
The Yant Flats which are more commonly known as the Candy Cliffs will be a sight that will leave you in awe. The cliffs can be compared to The Wave which is located in Arizona with its beautifully formed and colored sandstone formation. The hike through Yant Flats to get to the Candy Cliffs is around 1.5 miles and then when you reach your destination you may end up exploring for hours!
WHAT TO EAT IN ST. GEORGE
Swig:
This is one of my most favorite places to grab a nice refreshing soda in between my St. George Adventures. The way Swig works is you get to choose a soda and flavored syrups that you would like to add to that soda. My personal favorite is the Loop-T-Loop (Sprite+Strawberry+Watermelon+Peach) and don’t forget to add one of their famous pink sugar cookies to your order!
Sweet Rolled Tacos:
I discovered Sweet Rolled Tacos the last time I was at St. George and now it is one of my most favorite ice cream places. A sweet rolled taco is pretty much exactly what it sounds like. It is rolled up ice cream that is placed into a waffle shell with all kinds of different toppings. It is delicious and a fun treat that never seems to disappoint.
Black Bear Diner:
This is the place to stop by if you want to taste some amazing all day breakfast. This diner has an awesome atmosphere and some great food that you won’t want to miss out on. Be sure to bring a big appetite and expect some big portions of food.
If you are looking for an out of this world Utah adventure then St. George is sure to be your place! It has so many great hikes to be walked, sights to see, and things to be done.
