15 Things to Pack for a Unforgettable Disneyland Trip
California’s Disneyland and California Adventure are known by many as the Happiest Place On Earth! Chances are that you are here today reading this article because you are getting ready for your journey to this magical kingdom.
In my experience of Disney trips the one thing that makes the whole experience even more amazing is when you’re packed like a pro. So get ready and get your packing list out and let me help you add the items that will make all the difference.
ITEM #1: Walking Shoes
The last time I was in Disneyland I walked about 12 miles a day! Ya, that’s a lot right!? So believe me when I say that the shoes that you wear in the park make all the difference. The better the shoes the better the day in the kingdom of magic. I have LOVED my Nike Air Maxs and they have supported and provided the comfort to my feet that I need.
If you are one to normally experience sensitive feet when it comes to walking a great deal then I would also recommend that you buy insoles to further that comfort.
ITEM #2: Water Bottle
STAY HYDRATED! This is so important and it is definitely worth carrying around a water bottle all day. My Hydro Flask has been a lifesaver in the parks.
Throughout the parks there are different water stations that you can fill up your bottle that tend to be very convenient. The hydro flask is durable and keeps your water nice and cold through the day.
ITEM #3: Backpack
When I am in the parks I always have a backpack on me. It may be holding snacks, maybe a jacket or sweatshirt, and other necessities. Just because I am only packing around things for myself in my bag I like to only use a small backpack.
This mini backpack from Saverry is perfectly sized for personal use for a day in Disneyland. If you are looking for more of a standard-sized backpack this Nike Brasilia works perfectly and is water-resistant.
ITEM #4: Portable Charger
If you are planning for a full day of Disney then you can plan being in the park for 12+ hours. Bringing a portable charger along with you can be a lifesaver especially if you are planning on using the Disneyland app on your phone.
The Anker Portable Charger is great for keeping your phone charged throughout the day. All you have to do is plug your phone into it and let it do its work as you continue playing and riding all of the rides.
ITEM #5: Sunscreen
If you aren’t wanting to get sun burnt then WEAR SUNSCREEN. You will be outside for most of the day and in some of the lines you will be standing out in the open with the sun beating down on you. It’s much better to be protected than regret it later!
I have had great experience with the Banana Boat Sunscreen Spray. You can keep it in your backpack with you or you could even rent a locker in the park and keep it there until you need it throughout the day.
ITEM #6: Medicine
If you need any medication throughout the day it would be in your best interest to carry it with you into the park instead of traveling to and from the park and your hotel. Also, on the days when I am in the park and am walking a lot I like to keep some Ibuprofen or Advil with me for sore or hurting feet and legs. It may also be smart to carry allergy and stomach medication.
Some of these medications you may want to keep with you at all times in a backpack but some of it could be put in a rented out locker.
ITEM #7: Cash or card
This is so important! There are many gift shops, snack carts, and restaurants all through the park. Even if you don’t plan on spending much money once you are actually there it’s still smart to keep some money on you. You never know when you might crave a churro or find a sweet sweatshirt.
ITEM #8: Sunglasses
If you are looking into the weather forecast for your upcoming Disneyland trip and notice that you’re going to be getting lots of sun then pack those sunglasses! I mean… who wants to walk around being constantly blinded by the sun all day? Not me and I’m guessing you don’t either.
The SOJOS Sunglasses work great and come in a lot of cool colors and designs. When you aren’t wearing them they are perfect for storing in your backpack.
ITEM #9: Ponchos
Whether it’s a rainy day or you plan on riding Grizzly River Run or Splash Mountain (which is currently closed and will soon be Tiana’s Bayou Adventure) ponchos are great to have on hand. The Hagon Rain Ponchos are perfect because after a day of use you can easily recycle them and start with a new dry one the next day.
If you are worried about having to walk around in wet, soggy clothing all day a poncho is a great solution. You may even consider bringing along a pair of flip flops or sandals if you are concerned about your tennis shoes getting wet.
ITEM #10: Snacks
Who doesn’t love a fresh Disneyland Churro or a nice cool Dole whip in the Tiki Room?! As great as all of the food in the parks taste they tend to be on the expensive side and add up quickly. Don’t hesitate in packing a few granola bars, fruit snacks, or trail mix to keep yourself from getting too hungry between snacks or meals.
Disneyland permits food into the parks so if you feel like it would be better for you to pack a sandwich for a meal go right on ahead!
ITEM #11: Disneyland app
I have found the Disneyland app so helpful in the parks. In this app you can easily see the wait times of the different rides and when they are. You can also mobile order food through the app and some shops allow you to check out straight from your cell phone. You can also put your ticket into it and use it to get into the gates of the parks.
Another thing that I greatly recommend is paying for the Genie + pass. It is $30 a day per person and allows you to bypass some of the wait time for most of the rides (also known as a lightning lane). This is especially nice when the park is very crowded and the lines are long.
ITEM #12: Magicband+
Even though this item on the list isn’t quite a huge need or priority and can be nice to have. The Magicband+ can be linked to your Disneyland app and your ticket that’s located there. This band can be scanned to get into the park and to get in a lightning lane when one is booked. It also is interactive and vibrates and turns colors during any of the park’s shows.
ITEM #13: Sweatshirt or Jacket
Even though the day may be warm, the early mornings and nights can often lead to a little chill throughout Disneyland and California Adventure. It typically doesn’t get overwhelmingly cold but a jacket or sweatshirt is always nice to have on hand. You can even stow it away in a backpack or keep it in a locket until it is needed.
I am always looking for a new cute crewneck or hoodie for my Disney vacations which makes Etsy my go to place. There are over hundreds of great options to choose from and there is something for everyone.
ITEM #14: Dress accordingly to the weather
I can’t stress enough how important it is to pull up your weather app and have a look at what the weather will be like in Anaheim at the time of your vacation. If it’s looking to be warm you will want to pack shorts and lighter clothing. But if you will be there during a chilly time then pack warmer outfits. If you pack the correct clothing for the temperature you will end up being so much better off.
ITEM #15: Hand Sanitizer
There are thousands of people that are in and out of the parks every single day. Hands have been everywhere and have touched just about everything.
It can be comforting to know that you are being protected from these germs with hand sanitizer. The Touchland Mist Hand Sanitizer is quick and easy to use and doesn’t take up too much room in your backpack. It comes in multiple amazing scents and it works wonders.
IN CONCLUSION:
I am so excited for you and your upcoming Disneyland trip! Don’t forget to bring the essentials and I promise that you will have an amazing time.
